If the person is unable to tolerate lactose, he or she will need to limit the amount of milk or dairy they consume. The doctor may also perform a stool test to rule out inflammatory bowel disease. Other conditions can also cause a person to have lactose intolerance, including celiac disease and irritable bowel syndrome.

High-fat dairy products are associated with an increased risk of breast cancer

A recent study found an association between eating high-fat dairy products and a greater risk of developing breast cancer. The researchers found that women who consumed higher amounts of high-fat dairy products had a 68 percent higher risk of developing breast cancer and a 49 percent greater risk of dying from breast cancer. High-fat dairy products include cream, whole milk, condensed or evaporated milk, cheeses, yogurts, and pudding.

Milk is a good source of calcium

Calcium is an essential mineral that supports bone health and is also vital to muscle function and nerve transmission. Most adults need between 1,000 and 1,200 milligrams of calcium daily. Unfortunately, most people only consume about half of this amount. This can lead to ongoing calcium deficiency and osteoporosis. However, drinking milk is a great way to increase your daily intake.

It contains hormones

Although it may come as a shock to many people, drinking milk contains hormones, and a study has shown that the hormones found in milk can affect human health. Some studies have found that drinking milk can promote the development of hormone-sensitive cancers, such as breast and ovarian cancer. Others have found that drinking milk can accelerate puberty in children.
