Can someone take your wedding ring in a custody battle?

While it might seem like taking someone else's wedding ring would be a pretty straightforward move—after all, you can't just go around stealing other people's property!—it turns out that there are some legal complications when it comes to wedding rings. In fact, in many states, it's illegal to steal someone else's property—even if it's their wedding ring! Most states have laws against theft and/or burglary. So if someone takes your ring without permission and doesn't return it when asked by the rightful owner (you), then they'd be committing a crime. But what about if you give your ring away?
