Is there life after bankruptcy?
Bankruptcy Court
If you've ever been to a bankruptcy court, as I have, it's easy to draw a few conclusions about the people involved there. Some of them are trying to hide assets or aren't paying their debtors because they're irresponsible cheapskates. There's nothing wrong with being a cheapskate—it's just a matter of perspective, right?—but bankruptcy is often the result of circumstances that were beyond the individual's control.
Bankruptcy will be the logical conclusion
If you lose your job and can't pay your mortgage and then can't qualify for credit card consolidation because you've maxed out all your cards, what do you do? Maybe start stealing from places you work? Maybe sell off some of your belongings on eBay? In either case, if you don't reach out for help, bankruptcy will be the logical conclusion.
During Bankruptcy
If life hasn't been going well for you lately, you may be able to pick up some tips from someone who has been through the process: me. It has not been an easy road for me since my initial filing in 2009 (I should note that this blog post was written in 2012). I felt like crap when my friends and acquaintances asked me how I was doing these past few years because I didn't want to admit I had gone through such.
The financial consequences of Chapter 7 bankruptcy
The financial consequences of Chapter 7 bankruptcy can seem harsh: you may lose your house or car and have to start from scratch financially. There are some things that stay the same, though. You still have to pay for the things you need, like food and clothing. You may have to make different choices about how you spend your money, but people who have gone through bankruptcy say it's possible to get back on track financially and regain a sense of stability.
