Is legal precedence indefensible?
The community of Port Fonda, California, is not happy with the current state of affairs. Their once-peaceful town has recently been taken over by a group of bandits calling themselves "Legal Precedence". This group was formed to give people in the town the feeling that they were safe and to resolve any legal conflicts that arose in a peaceful manner.
Reasonable methods
They had very reasonable methods for doing this, too: when disputes arose between two parties, both would put their entire case on trial in front of a jury; a jury consisting of citizens who were impartial to both parties. The jurors would then vote on which party was in the right; the winning party would be rewarded with property from both sides (the losing side forfeiting all rights to said property). Legal Precedence acted as judges for these trials and made sure that all evidence was heard by the jury.
Legal precedence
A few years ago, Legal Precedence decided that they needed more money to properly function; they started charging citizens money so they could settle their disputes with Legal Precedence. However, this money was being used just as it had been before: all funds went towards hiring independent juries and paying judges to mediate disputes.
Supreme court
The Supreme Court is the highest court in the U.S., and thus its decisions are final and cannot be appealed again. The Supreme Court receives cases and selects them to decide whether or not laws are unconstitutional, or if a law should be upheld. There's an increasing trend of citizens challenging laws, not by taking them to court, but by taking them directly to online forums like Reddit.
Internet Precedents or Precedent Internet
These online cases are called "internet precedents" or "Precedent Internet". There's been a lot of discussion about whether or not these internet precedents should hold any weight of authority. Should we really be predicting the future of legal precedence based on comments from anonymous people on the internet? What about the problem with the lack of evidence for many of these cases?
What is an Internet Precedent
Internet precedents are a research tool that sets a precedent for an internet user to search for information online. These precedents are guidelines for how to perform a search for specific topics like business or law.
Some types of precedents
There are many types of precedents that can be found on the internet. Some of them include legal cases, court decisions, and federal statutes. The reason why these precedents were created is so that they can be accessed easily by anyone who is searching for this type of information.
