Is it okay to drink whey protein and pre-workout drinks?
Yes. Whey protein is a source of amino acids that helps build muscle. It’s a byproduct of the cheese-making process, and though it has little flavor on its own, it absorbs the flavors of other ingredients well. While pre-workout drinks usually contain caffeine, they also often contain some form of creatine, which helps increase the amount of energy your muscles can produce.
As a general rule, it’s better to get your daily nutrients from whole foods as opposed to supplements. Though eating whole foods is ideal, you can still enjoy whey protein and pre-workout drinks as long as you also have a well-rounded diet. The key is to make sure you eat enough calories each day—if you don’t get enough calories from whole foods or beverages, a supplement like whey protein may be necessary to ensure that you get enough amino acids from somewhere.
